Tips For Adults Learning
French!
"Have you been having troubles trying to learn the French Language?"
It's a well known fact that adults have more difficulties to learn than
children. Nothing can replace an early childhood education. Kids learn
from "scratch" while their parents need to compare to their own
language.
In
order to maximize your chances of success when you study French (or any
other language), follow these helpful tips for adults learning French.
The
first thing you need to do is to ask yourself what are your reasons
to learn French?
The method will be different if you learn French because you want to
travel, or just for fun. When you learn for your job and you don't
specially want to learn the new language, it's even harder since one of
the main factor of success is missing: motivation.
When
you know why you are learning, you need to select. What will you learn?
It doesn't matter if you don't have a clue about French grammar if you
are just planning to spend your holidays in Bordeaux for
example.
In
this case, skip the grammar and just focus on conversational French.
French phrases that you will be able to use. What you need is to speak
with people and be able to reply. Have fun, you don't need to take
intensive classes, a software will be great for you.
Then
you need to train your memory. It is sad but with all the technology
(which is a good thing), we don't need to use our memory anymore. I
remember the time when I knew hundreds of telephone numbers without the
need to write them down or save them on my cellular...
Your
memory is a muscle and you need to practice like you would do for your
biceps. How do you train your memory? You need to listen and repeat,
listen and repeat again. Listen to a French sentence, and then, repeat
it several times until you are able to pronounce it easily and
naturally.
Find
a partner to study. He will help be a tremendous help because
he
will be able to point at some of your mistakes. The one you can't find
yourself.
Set
up a goal, and a schedule. Not a vague goal, but a monthly plan with
subdivisions. Write this on paper, and follow your plan to the letter.
Like this, you will know if you are actually making progress or not.
One
of the best tips for adults trying to learn French is to practice with
your child. You will have fun, and you will be amazed when you see how
learning French is easy for them! They will be your secret weapon.
